BlackBerry Travel App launched in India

With the holiday season hovering around, users are busy sketching out lists of important items for their travel trip. Designing apps that cater to distinct needs, BlackBerry has now come up with its new Travel app for users in India. This app is touted to be an integrated tool which enables users to plan, book, manage and share travel activities with ease.
The app renders flawless push notifications and a perfect integration of travel itineraries and flight status updates into the familiar BlackBerry Calendar. When the user’s e-mail inbox receives a new booking confirmation or itinerary, the BlackBerry Travel app will be intuitively updated with all the necessary itinerary details.
Besides BlackBerry push technology, this new solution can proficiently recognize potential omissions or scheduling concerns with the itineraries, like missing accommodations or timing conflicts. The app includes imperative travel tool such as hotel, booking, currency converters, weather forecasts and local search functionality.
Users can share their travel information through e-mail or LinkedIn. The LinkedIn integration helps users locate individuals, send messages to contacts and update their status. The app comes along with a web component that permits users to book flights and car rentals, and print and edit itineraries, from their PC. The app was developed in collaboration with WorldMate.

Motorola Droid X2 coming the Verizon Wireless way

The Motorola Droid X2 smartphone has been in the news for quite some time now. Well, the wait is finally over with Verizon Wireless and Motorola Mobility now offering the second-generation Android powered handset. Fuelled by Android 2.2, which can be updated to Android 2.3, the phone should allow users to mix business with pleasure. It claims to give users the ‘Do everything on a smartphone’ feature with its powerful performance.
Internet savvy users can enjoy a seamless web experience with fast loading of web pages and Adobe Flash player enabled by Verizon Wireless’ first dual-core 1GHz processor. Users can play video games, type emails and watch movies on the 4.3-inch screen with anti-reflective qHD display. What’s more, the screen is scratch resistant and delivers sharp and clear images. For all those who love to ‘say cheese’ to everyone around, the handset provides an 8-megapixel camera having ongoing autofocus and good quality HD video capture. All photos can be posted on social networking sites from one place itself using the new gallery application.

The enterprise-ready handset features upgraded security and IT policies enabling apt usage for work and play.

It would be available in Verizon Wireless Communication Stores on May 26 for a price of $199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement. Google plans to eventually have both Android tablets and smartphones running Ice Cream Sandwich. However, until then, Google tablets are running the company’s tablet-optimized version of Android, Honeycomb, while phones are based on Gingerbread, aka Android 2.3.

However, those with tablet rocking Honeycomb needn’t feel left out of the Gingerbread fun. Pocketables reports modder Graffix0214 has discovered that bumping the pixel density (ppi) from 160 to higher than 170 will transform your rooted Honeycomb tablet into a Gingerbread tablet. You can use ‘LCDDensity for Root’ to tweak the dpi and toggle back and forth between Honeycomb and Gingerbread as much as you like.

India Launches New Communications Satellite

India Launches New Communications SatelliteIndia's geostationary satellite GSAT-8 was successfully put into orbit in the early hours of Saturday, 21st May, 2011. As we had reported earlier, it was launched aboard the Ariane-VA-202 rocket from Kourou space port in French Guiana in South America. The rocket belonging to European Space Agency (ESA) consortium's Arianespace, lifted off with two other payloads aboard.

The 3.1 tonne satellite lifted off at 2:11 am IST and successfully separated from the rocket's upper stage after 31 minutes, putting it in an elliptical equatorial geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) at 1,800 km above the Earth. Now under control of ISRO's (Indian Space Research Organisation) Master Control Facility (MCF) facility at Hasan, about 180 km from Bangalore, the satellite will gradually be boosted to its final geostationary orbit at an altitude of about 36,000 km above the Earth in the next couple of days and its solar power panels will be deployed.

ISRO Director, S. Satish said, "The MCF will test and monitor the health parameters of the payloads by June 1. It will be available for DTH services from July 1". As reported earlier, the GSAT-8 carries 24 high-power Ku-band transpoders forDirect-To-Home (DTH) services run by private and government operators. The satellite also has a global position system (GPS) aided geo-augmented navigation (Gagan) as an additional payload. This seeks to improve the accuracy of the widely popular U.S.A.-owned GPS global positioning and navigational system.
