Volkswagen Up
Volkswagen India will be launching an inexpensive car for the masses which will be placed below the Polo. According to the Financial Express, Volkswagen India has started working on the development of the new sub-Polo small car. VW in India wants to keep the costs of the car as low as possible by roping in local parts manufacturers. The new small car could be launched by 2012.
Volkswagen Up
“Volkswagen’s proposed small car would have a higher local sourcing than the Polo,” according to a source of the Financial Express. The company aims to increase local sourcing from the current 60-65 percent to 75 percent. The base version of the VW Polo is priced at Rs 4.34 lakh ex-showroom Delhi and the new small is likely to be at least Rs 1 lakh cheaper than the base Polo.
“The company is exploring various options to increase their India presence including bringing more products into India,” the source reported. Now, Volkswagen is rumoured to be developing a five-door version of the Lupo for the Indian market. An ultra-fuel efficient 800 cc diesel engine could go in to the Lupo and so could a 1.0 litre petrol. The 2012 Lupo will be based on the VW Up concept featured above.

WASHINGTON: Gordon, a cutting edge supercomputer, can process a tsunami of digital information, besides tackling new challenges in data storage and massive datasets.

" Gordon is a supercomputer that will do for scientific data analysis what Google does for web search," said Michael Norman, director of San Diego Supercomputer Centre (SDSC), University of California, which is designing and developing the system.

Gordon will have 250 trillion bytes of flash memory . It will be capable of handling massive databases while providing up to 100 times faster speed when compared to hard drive disk systems for some queries, according to a California statement.

"Digital data is advancing at least as fast, and probably faster, than Moore's Law," said Michael Norman, director of SDSC.

Moore's Law refers to the computing belief that the number of transistors which can be placed cheaply on an integrated circuit doubles approximately every 18 months.

This makes Gordon ideal for data mining and data exploration, where researchers have to churn through tremendous amounts of data just to find a small amount of valuable information, not unlike a web search.

These findings will be presented at the 3rd Annual La Jolla Research & Innovation Summit this week.

WASHINGTON: Google has created a time machine with which one can simultaneously explore space and time at extremely high resolutions.

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute have leveraged the latest browser technology to create GigaPan Time Machine, a system that enables viewers to explore gigapixel-scale, high-resolution videos and image sequences by panning or zooming in and out of the images while simultaneously moving back and forth through time.

Viewers, for instance, can use the system to focus in on the details of a booth within a panorama of a carnival midway, but also reverse time to see how the booth was constructed. Or they can watch a group of plants sprout, grow and flower, shifting perspective to watch some plants move wildly as they grow while others get eaten by caterpillars. Or, they can view a computer simulation of the early universe, watching as gravity works across 600 million light-years to condense matter into filaments and finally into stars that can be seen by zooming in for a close up.

"With GigaPan Time Machine, you can simultaneously explore space and time at extremely high resolutions," said Illah Nourbakhsh, associate professor of robotics and head of the CREATE Lab.

"Science has always been about narrowing your point of view - selecting a particular experiment or observation that you think might provide insight. But this system enables what we call exhaustive science, capturing huge amounts of data that can then be explored in amazing ways," added Nourbakhsh.

An enabling technology for time-lapse GigaPans is a feature of the HTML5 language that has been incorporated into such browsers as Google's Chrome and Apple's Safari. HTML5, the latest revision of the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) standard that is at the core of the Internet, makes browsers capable of presenting video content without use of plug-ins such as Adobe Flash or Quicktime.

Once a Time Machine GigaPan has been created, viewers can annotate and save their explorations of it in the form of video "Time Warps."

Charles and Diana were two contradicting personalities and their age gap was also 11 years. William is only six months older to Kate, and it seems they share a better chemistry than the Charles-Diana pair.

Indian models are not just faces strutting down the runway today.
They have become much more than people who represent the vision of the designer. Today, a model is a brand in herself and represents the fashion fraternity as a whole. Here are the Top 10 female models who have completely transformed the face of the Indian fashion industry.

1.Noyonika Chatterjee

Noyonika has been the queen of the ramp for over a decade. She was one of the first models to break the stereotype of light-skinned models. Till today, her warm complexion is her biggest asset. She not only walks the ramp but also trains new models and choreographs shows.

2.Nina Manuel

She was a part of the new wave of dusky models who were taking the fash frat by storm. She is one of the most celebrated models in the country today owing to her blessed looks and potential.

3. Madhu Sapre

Madhu Sapre scandalised the nation when she had a naked photoshoot with co-model Milind Soman. She was one of the boldest models and was catalytic in bringing about a revolutionary change in the perception of models in India.

4. Sheetal Mallar

Sheetal beat Madhu Sapre to win the Femina Look of the Year in 1994 and there was no looking back for her post it. After her stay on top for years, Sheetal bid adieu to the ramp last year.

5. Diandra Soares

Diandra was probably the first bald model to ever be seen on the runway. Huffington Post described her as the most beautiful bald model ever seen. Her knack for being passionately different led her to the top of her game.

6. Bipasha Basu

Before she became an actress, Bipasha was a top-notch model. She won the Gladrags Supermodel Hunt early in her career and was one of the most sought after models of her time. She reportedly got bored of modelling which is why she moved on to acting and found success there too.

7. Nethra Raghuraman

This South Indian beauty has been a prominent face on the ramp and the tele screens for years. Shehas worked in several acclaimed movies but her first love remains modelling and fashion lovers will never complain.
