The ASUS Padfone was being teased for some time and was recently unveiled at Computex 2011 as a one of its kind technology. The Padfone is an innovative mobile docking tablet for ASUS phones where users can use their mobiles on tablets for charging. However, according to tech website Engadget, a similar concept was announced in the form of CMIT's TransPhone three days before the Padfone was officially announced, so technically being the first mobile docking tablet.

Like the Padfone, the TransPhone also includes a docking port for smartphones. However, the similarity stops there with each having its own unique features and design. The TransPhone reportedly features a slide-in smartphone dock, a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor and SVGA display, along with USB and HDMI ports. No word is available on what operating system the Transphone is running as of yet. The Padfone runs on an Android Honeycomb for the Tablet and Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Smartphone. The other features of the Padfone are  3G connectivity and dual-cameras.

No further word is available on pricing or when the TransPhone will be officially launched in the market. Where as the Padfone is expected to be launched by the end of 2011.

Now here’s a surprise. At the Computex fair in Taipei, ASUS has unveiled the Eee PC X101, an ultra-thin netbook at 17.6mm and ultra-light at 950g, which has both Windows 7 and MeeGo variants. The Eee PC X101 has a 10.1-inch display, 802.11 WiFi b/g/n and an Intel Atom N435 processor, which will probably be unveiled later at Computex. It will also come in X101H variant, which will have a SSD hybrid hard drive.

Here’s what ASUS had to say about the Eee PC X101: “ASUS evolves the Eee PC further with new models that take netbooks to ever-greater heights. The new Eee PC X101 has been designed from the start to be the perfect ultraportable for modern mobile users, with its Intel MeeGo operating system incorporating full support for a wide range of social networking services. Eee PC X101 Series netbooks are also offered with the Windows 7 operating system, and models ship with both solid state and mechanical hard drive storage configurations.”

The base MeeGo model will cost a mere $200 (~Rs. 9,000) which is pretty good. We hope to hear more about this series of netbooks soon.

Qualcomm has announced that it will show off a series of mobile devices which will be powered by its next-generation Snapdragon processor. The new devices will be featured at the ongoing Computex fair.

In a statement given by Kouji Kodera, HTC’s chief product officer, “We have installed the MSM8655-based Snapdragon mobile development platform in our HTC Flyer tablet PC, and we will use the MSM8660-based platform in our HTC Sensation and HTC EVO 3D smartphones that will go on sale soon. We're looking forward to the sample of the MSM8960-based chipset, which will be used in the development of new Snapdragon mobile devices.”

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors are in use by over 125 smartphones and tablets. Manufacturers prefer the Snapdragon because of its performance capabilities. ASUS has also used the Snapdragon processor in its Android 3.0 tablets due to the low power consumption of the chip.

ZiiLabs announced today that they will unveil their 7-inch and 10-inch Android tablets at the ongoing Computex 2011 fair. The tablets are designed for the latest Android 3.x operating system and are based on reference designs. Based on a motherboard concept, the JAGUAR allows an OEM or ODM to bring to market their own Android 3.x tablets in the shortest possible time.

Hock Leow, president of ZiiLABS added, “As consumer demand for a wide-range of smarter, more connected tablets increases, so do the OEMs' needs to innovate while also shrinking their time-to-market. The JAGUAR platform combines our deep understanding and experience working on consumer devices and tablets with our ZMS processors, reference platforms, software and certification know-how to deliver a state-of-the-art platform that minimizes the complexities of introducing next-generation tablets”.

Sim Wong Hoo, Chairman and CEO of Creative Technology added, "Timing is everything and a frenzied land-grab is taking place in the tablet computing market. Android 3.X and ZMS-20 are designed and engineered specifically for this new and exciting tablet market where growth is expected to approach 100 million next year. The JAGUAR platforms based on ZiiLABS' ZMS-20 and ZMS-40 processors push performances to a new level that the world has never seen before and OEMs and ODMs can leverage this with JAGUAR to quickly stake a sizeable claim in this explosive market."

The ‘Jaguar’ tablets (both dual core and quad core) will be shown in the ZiiLABS suite at Computex and you can expect a whole lot of new information, so stay tuned.

J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the LG Electronics PC Business Unit said that the combination of the newest Intel Core processor and the FPR display in the LG V300 is going to create a new level of performance and viewing experience in a PC. With millions of homes now using their PCs as entertainment hubs, marrying the best from the computing world with the best from the display world was the next natural step in the evolution of the PC.

Mooly Eden, Vice President and General Manager of Intel PC Client Group said that 2nd Generation Intel Core processor paves the way for great all-in-one systems like LG Electronics new V300. The V300 combines LG Electronics' display technology with 2nd Generation Intel Core's great performance and built-in visuals to create an awesome PC experience.

This all-in-one comes with two sets of light weight polarized glasses, an option to choose from Intel’s Core i3, i5 or i7 processors, 23-inch full HD LED LCD display, memory of maximum 8 GB DDR3 1333MHz, storage capacity of up to 750 GB, Gigabyte LAN, HD webcam with stereo microphone and many other features. The LG V300 will launch in Korea in July followed by markets in Europe, Middle East and Asia.

At CES 2011, ASUS announced three Honeycomb tablets for a 2011 release. These were the Eee Pad Transformer, which is already out, the Eee Pad Slider and the Eee Pad MeMo. Details have been few and far between since then but now at Computex, ASUS has confirmed that the Eee Pad MeMo now sports a 1280x800 glassless 3D IPS display and is called the Eee Pad MeMo 3D.

Here’s what ASUS had to say: “The ASUS Eee Pad MeMO 3D is designed to be an alternative take on the 10" tablet that is fast becoming a standard size. This portrait-oriented device has a 7" multi-touch screen that can be used in the usual way with Android Honeycomb applications, but there's also the added twist of stylus support, so users can opt for handwriting input and treat the MeMO 3D much like a digital notepad. Productivity is only one area where the Memo 3D scores highly, though. The bundled MeMIC Bluetooth hands-free headset makes it ideal for listening to music and making calls, while flipping the MeMO 3D into landscape turns it into a glasses-free 3D display that adds a new dimension to mobile entertainment. Consumers can enjoy movies, games and photos in 3D, all from the palm of their hand.”

No other specs or details were revealed, but you can be sure we’ll inform you as soon as soon as we hear more.

Post the Flyer, HTC is reportedly planning a June release for the next addition to its tablet clan, calling it Puccini. The Puccini is a 10.1-inch media tablet, running on Android 3.0.1 Honeycomb.
Awaited..
Awaited..

The tablet sports both the resistive, as well as capacitive touch screen abilities. It will be powered by dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 processor. The tablet will incorporate the HTC Scribe capacitive stylus for Puccini. The same has also been readied for HTC Flyer, and is due for a release soon. The scribe, an interesting addition will let users draw on a webpage, as also will have multiple other functions, too.

Although, at the moment this is just the only information that is up for grabs; a June release would mean more updates including more specifications, pricing et al popping up every now and then.

Those of you following smartphone news for a long time have certainly heard of Eldar Murtazin. The latest news is that Eldar has got hold of a smartphone from HTC running on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.1 (yes, that’s Mango). The only other feature that has been spoken of is that this anonymous handset sports a whopping 12 Megapixel camera!

Don’t mistake this for the HTC Bresson that was said to sport a 16 Megapixel camera, no. This doesn’t mean that HTC will not be manufacturing the Bresson, or something but just that this particular smartphone looks more likely to launch sooner than the Bresson. This handset looks classy in terms of design and everything, probably looks a little similar to the HTC Trophy because of the big earpiece grill. Keeping the design aside, the smartphone’s OS Windows Phone 7.1 looks quite stunning. The transitioning between menus and the flow of the OS overall, is very fluid.

Now Eldar Murtazin has also tweeted saying, "I like 12 megapixel camera on WP7 - support RAW, some additional settings. Quality is not bad at all. Will compare with N8 tomorrow". For now that’s about this handset, but we’ll be on the lookout on more news of this smartphone.

Prices of the products above are indicative only, as observed at online mobile stores such asAdexmart.comFlipkart.com and UniverCell.in and PCW will endeavor to keep the prices current. Univercell.in is a well-known mobile phone retailer, with a strong online presence. In our quest of finding prices, we also discovered FlipKart.com, a website that started as a specialist of selling books and music online. FlipKart surprised us with its listing of latest mobile phones with the most competitive pricing. Adexmart is a new site that might not have the largest number of phones or brands but definitely has one of the lowest prices on the Net. You can buy these phones (offline) from brick-and-mortar stores, and also from univercell.in, adexmart.com or flipkart.com online.
